- Course objectives
- The course Media Culture is designed to contribute to the so-called media literacy of teachers. Its aim is to arise teachers´ interest in media studies. It tries to answer the basic question why to engage in media studies and how these studies can be beneficial. At the end of the course students should be able to understand the way how media work and explains how a media communication is created and how the media influence recipients´ life.

- 3. Media and entertainment. Reality show.
- 4. Media and news.
- 5. Media and marketing.
- 6. Regulation and autoregulation of media.

- Teaching methods
- The course takes form of a lecture in which examples of particular media will be shown (e.g. parts of films, TV commercials, TV news, computer games etc.)
- Assessment methods
- Reading of secondary literatury; Credit requirements: students write a seminar paper dealing with one of the asssigned topics or topics of students´own choice which has to meet adequate criteria and must be handed in by deadline. A short research report of about 5 pages dealing with a topical question, e.g. Which programmes for children broadcast at weekends by the state run television can be counted among the best and why? Which programmes broadcast by the Czech radio can be recommended to pupils? What does a particular journal you read look like regarding the genres it presents? Own topics of seminare paper are welcomed (another possibilities e.g. Content analysis of particular media product, The influence of advertisments on children on the primary schools, Proposal of the media education lesson for a particular grade of the primare school, Media presentation of partichlar political party/parties, Analyses of advertisement catchwords, The means of influencing and effect of web advertisement video-product (on the chosen cases), Culture of the public debat in the Czech Republic on the case of Charlie Hebdo).
