Course objectives
The purpose of this lecture is explaining of some important an different described phenomena of the lexicology: lexicology in the linguistic system, fundamental terminology (word, word meaning, relation between form and meaning). The students win information about onymy, phraseology, geographical and social stratification of the vocabulary, about contemporary tendency in the development and changes in the vocabulary. There are introduced lexicons and the modern (computer) methods in the lexicography to the students. On seminary the students train lexical analysis.
Learning outcomes
The student understands the place of lexicology in the system of linguistic plans, understands the serious period of development of the Czech language vocabulary, basic terminology (word, meaning of the word, relation of form and meaning, etc.). He has an awareness of the onymy, phraseology, territorial and social stratification of vocabulary.

  • 1. Lexicology in the linguistic system. 2. Inter-disciplinary lexicology. 3. Lexical semantics (semantic theories, models]. 4. Component analysis. 5. Relation between form and meaning of the word (synonymy, polysemy, antonymy]. 6. Development of Czech vocabulary. 7. Tendency in the development of contemporary Czech vocabulary.
