Course objectives
The aim of the course is to deepen student´s knowledge about speech therapy and connect them with other subjects - such as education of individuals with hearing/physical/visual and mental impairment, psychology and medical discipline (neurology, ENT, phoniatrics). Furthermore, to deepen knowledge concerning communication disruption in children and adults.
Syllabus
  • Basic syllabus: Spech therapy intervention from historical perspective, development of science and study program in 21. century. Etiology and patogenesis od speech disruption. Speech therapy intervention in early intervention. Integrated student with speech disorder in elementary school. Speech therapist´s role in copmrehensive rehabilitation care aimed to individuals with acquired neurological speech disorder in adulthood and in the old age. Contemporary speech therapy intervention in children and pupils with symptomatic speech disorders. Alternative and augmentative communication - communication systems, requirements for use of AAK in children, youth, adults and seniors. Specialized syllabus: Speech diagnostics and therapy in children with disrupted speech development. Test and test battery, exams, which are used in diagnostics of acquired neurological speech disorders (dysarthria, aphasia). Dysphagia in children with cerebral palsy. Dysphagia in adults. Methods, techniques and principles used by speech therapist in diagnostics of speech disorders. Contemporary issues of balbutology - etiology, patogenesis and therapy. Speech therapy intervention as a part of comprehensive rehabilitation in developmental disorders in orofacial area. Contemporary trends in speech therapy intervention in children and students with autistic spektra disorder.

Assessment methods
Processing and submission of: - seminar thesis in the lenght of 10 - 15 pages. - case study concerning individual with speech disorder (child, student, youth, adults). - diagnostic approach and recommendation for therapy. Course will be taught in two semestrs
