Course objectives
Students are able to differenciate between Czech and foreign phonetic language systems. Students are capable of explaining phonetic system of Czech language to a pupil with a different mother tongue.
Syllabus
  • 1. Phonetics of Czech language for foreigners as a special linguo-didactic discipline. Sound means of coherent speech in Czech for foreigners (intonation, accent). 2. – 3. Comparison of phonetic system of Czech language with phonetic systems of the Slavic languages. 4. – 5. Comparison of phonetic system of Czech language with phonetic systems of the non-Slavic languages. 6. Presentation of the phonological system by Czech non-native speakers; sounds different from the foreigner’s mother tongue sounds 7. – 8. Techniques of practicing standard pronunciation of isolated expressions and practicing standard pronunciation in speech. 9. – 10. Analysis of foreigners‘ utterances; Identification of pronunciation problems; attempt to propose solutions. 11. – 12. Interference in sound system of Czech non-native speakers.

Seminar - active participation is required + homework assignments.
Assessment methods
Active participation in the class + an essay + oral presentation at the end of the term. Requirements will be specified at the beginning of the term.
