Course objectives
The aim of the course, Didactics of Music for students, is to build the interconnections from the previously acquired theoretical knowledge and practical skills such as music theory, harmony, music history and teaching instrumental and vocal training so that the student is able to apply them in practice. In accordance with current trends in Education, attention is paid to non-traditional methods and forms of work aimed at the development of musical creativity and elementary music. Furthermore, emphasis is placed on the concept of the subject, which contributes to the understanding of the connections between different types of art.
Syllabus
  • Vocal activities – the methodology of learning polyphony songs. Perceptive Activities: Intonation and Aural Training. Intonation methods: Solmization; The Ku-ku method; F. Lýsek; L. Daniel: Tonal song method, height of tone, melody movement and diatonic procedures; starts without intonating support; supporting songs. Developing a tonal feeling. Working with two bars, four bars sections – musical period, movement; overture, interlude, finale of songs. Conducting – in 2/4, ¾, 4/4 beat, upbeat (Czech national Anthem). Rhythmical and kinaesthetic activities: the basic elements of rhythmical activities – rhythm, metre, bar, the main and off beat, pace, ostinato figure. Development of rhythmical feeling and body sounds. Master the basics of playing the soprano recorder.

Teaching methods
Practical preparation: singing – breathing and vocal exercises, monophonic/polyphonic song: work with text – accompanied on elementary music instruments and conducting. Playing the piano and soprano recorder; Body sounds. Orientation in the Major tonal system; working with the Tonal song method in practice. Development of rhythmical skills.
Assessment methods
Type of teaching: seminar. Credit requirements: a) A minimum of 80% active participation in seminars. b) Work with a text (nursery rhyme, poems): 5 nursery rhymes/poems – rhythmical accompaniment by using elementary musical instruments or kinaesthetic interpretation. c) 10 folk songs (2 of them for two voices), 2 songs from Ladislav Němec and 2 artificial songs: singing, playing the piano and conducting. d) Mastering the basics of playing the soprano recorder (C, D, G, F Major; 5 folk songs, 3 songs arranged for small children (h1, a1, g1, c2, d2)). e) Written preparation for a Music lesson for the 1st/2nd Year of a Primary School.
