The basics of social pedagogy are necessary for the bachelor study program Teaching at the elementary schools/ Teaching at the kindergarten.

Course objectives
The goal of this course unit is to acquaint the students with the determination of social pedagogy as the scientific discipline, with the basic development trends in this branch.
Learning outcomes
Students are focusing on the social pedagogical paradigm, on the influence of environment and education. They describe the actual problems of social pedagogy.
Syllabus
  • 1. Social education as a scientific discipline, its interdisciplinary character, cooperation with other disciplines. 2. Social education in Europe and the world (Poland, Germany, Slovakia, the United Kingdom, USA, …). 3. Methods and forms of social education, links with leisure time education, options of work in extracurricular education and leisure time education. Target groups of social education (children, adolescents, adults, specifics of socially disadvantaged groups, activation of seniors, minorities, migrants). 4. Influence of the environment on an individual’s development, typology of environments. The importance of the environment on an individual’s development, pedagogization of the environment. Social educator at school, options for work. 5. Social educator in school practice. Work options for social educators in schools. Cooperation with the teacher and other school employees. 6. Social education focused on socially disadvantaged groups, shared context with social pathology and social work. Definition of socially disadvantaged groups, inclusion and integration as understood by social education. Project planning in social education. 7. Diversity in schools, work with pupils’ “otherness”. 8. Axiological dimension of teaching, education towards values as part of the teaching process.
