- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to get acquainted with the field of special education of visually impaired at the Bachelor's degree level, focusing on the impact of visual impairment on quality of life. Learning outcomes of the course unit will acquaint students with the possibilities of counseling and intervention for persons with visual impairment (VI) in individual age periods.
- Learning outcomes
- Student will be able to:
- Identify and summarize important areas of impaired vision on the quality of life of a person by age;
- identify and describe current possibilities of support, counseling and intervention with a focus on age;
- Describe the factors that influence the selection of special aids for managing independent living;
- Apply in practice basic recommendations for accompanying a person with visual impairment and recommendations for independent mobility of a person with severe vision impairment; - Syllabus
- 1. The target group of people with visual impairment. The influence of visual impairment on an individual's personality and the psychomotor development of a visually impaired child.
- 2. Physiology of the vision process. Development of visual perception.
- 3. Early interventioon (EI) - the theoretical basis of early care, forms and services of EI, child support and support for his family.
- 4. Child with visual impairment at pre-school age (preschool education, child with impaired binocular vision - counseling and interventions in this age)
- 5. Child with visual disability in school age. Specifics, support for special needs of these pupils, counseling, measures.
- 6. Special aids for people with visual impairment and work with them. Use of computer technology in the education of pupils with visual impairment.
- 7. Pre-professional and vocational training of pupils with visual impairment - professional counseling.
- 8. Communication of Persons with Disabilities - Braille teaching and writing. Access to information.
- 9. Counseling - Providers of social services and their offer for persons over 15 years of age.
- 10. Multiple disability - counseling and intervention. Deafblindness.
