Course objectives
The aim of the course is to enable an insight into foreign language didactics as an independent discipline and understand complex issues related to foreign language teaching.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, a student will be able to:
explain the development of aims, content and methods of foreign language teaching;
explain the current approach to foreign language teaching;
outline the didactic basis of their dissertation research.
Syllabus
  • The focus is on the definition of foreign language didactics in two ways: 1. diachronic, which focuses on the development of approaches and methods in foreign language teaching and learning 2. synchronic, which deals with current approaches to foreign language teaching and learning. Main topics:
  • Concepts and objects of foreign language didactics, its structure.
  • Methods and approaches to foreign language teaching.
  • Characteristic features of post-communicative era in foreign language teaching.
  • Research in foreign language didactics.
