- Course objectives
- Upon completion of the course the students will be able to describe and have good command of the technique and methodology of gaming exercises, including their application in PE with rules adapted to the physical abilities and skills of younger school-aged children. The students will also be able to define the classification of physical activity games and use these games in PE lessons. The students will be able to develop and use a battery of relevant physical activity games including unconventional games in teaching PE in the 1st stage of elementary schools.
- Learning outcomes
- The students will be able to understand, explain and use the knowledge of physical education in the area of physical activity and sports games. They will be able to use the knowledge and skills in teaching physical activity and sports games to younger school-aged children. They will be able to diagnose the technique of various physical skills and design suitable preparatory exercises and games to improve the quality of execution of a specific physical skill. They will be knowledgeable about the rules of physical activity and sports games adapted for younger school-aged children (e.g. colour volleyball), and will be able to organize school tournaments in the first stage of elementary schools. They will be able to organize and suitably include physical games as required in various parts of PE lessons.
- Syllabus
- 1. Basic concepts associated with the activities, safety and hygiene of games, suitable clothing and footwear. 2.-12. The exercises include even proportions of the following physical activity and sports games: basketball, floorball, football, handball and volleyball. Content of physical activity games: learning of basic concepts relating to physical activity games and relevant apparatus, basic rules and organizational guidelines for physical activity games, safety of games, physical activity games and preparatory exercises for the development of all physical abilities, physical activity games based on apparatus manipulation, competitive, combat, creative games, demonstrations of classification of physical activity games by various authors, physical activity games in relation to sports games, development of a battery of physical activity games suitable for PE lessons in the first stage of elementary schools classified by grades and educational plans. Content of sports games: marking and equipment of the playing area, roles in games, simplified rules, basic principles of cooperation, organisation of a match, sports games in education programmes, preparatory and game-related exercises for ball handling, basic passes, movement with and without the ball, controlling the ball, shooting, defence, preparatory sports games and games with rules adapted to available equipment and students’ skills.
