- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to get acquainted with the field of education of visually impaired at bachelor level, from the definition of the field and its interdisciplinary position to support and counseling for people with visual impairment of different age groups. We will also focus on the education system of this target group in our country and on their specific measures and support in early, preschool and school age.
- Learning outcomes
- Students should be able to:
- Determine visual impairment, occurrence and causes, combined disability, peculiarities of psychological processes and personality development in visually impaired people;
- to know the specifics of a child with visual impairment in early, preschool and school age, counseling and intervention;
- to understand the education system for the visually impaired in our country, to know the technical aids and equipment, the role of special pedagogical centers; - Syllabus
- 1. Paradigm of ophthalmology - definition of the field, history of support for visually impaired people in our country and abroad, interdisciplinary cooperation.
- 2. The categorisation of visual impairment. The influence of visual impairment on an individual's personality (perception, thinking, attention, behavior, speech). Psychomotor development of a severely visually impaired child.
- 3. Physiology of the vision process. Development of visual perception.
- 4. Visual impairments, types of visual defects, etiology, manifestations. Symptomatology in the context of influencing quality of life.
- 5. Early intervention- theoretical basis of early care, forms and services. Resorts, clients and services.
- 6. A child with visual impairment in preschool age, a child with binocular problems and reeducation of these defects.
- 7. A child with visual impairment at school age.
- 8. Special aids for the visually impaired and work with them.
- 9. The system of education of visually impaired pupils in the Czech Republic.
