Course objectives
The aim of this subject is to deepen the theoretical students´ knowledge and to support their ability to interpret stylistic theory, understand it and be able to use it when creating one´s own original text. Studentst will be able to create texts that are linguistically correct and stylistically cultivated and they will be able to perform stylistic analysis of the text.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students will be able to: - analyze the text. - interpret the text. - perform stylistic and compositional text editing. - communicate in and linguistically and stylistically correct way.
Syllabus
  • 1. Stylistics in the context of linguistic disciplines, esp. stylistics and text linguistics, textual syntax, pragmatic linguistics, semantics and others. 2. Style and text - current communication aspects of the linguistic culture (language and culture specific communication). 3. Stylistic differentiation of Czech language, borders of functional styles, variability in the styles, esp. the scientific and journalistic style. 4. Production of factual text: Preparation and production of factual, esp. specialized, rhetorical and journalistic texts. Procedures for creating text, topic selection and structuring in scientific text formulation of hypotheses and processes of analysis and synthesis. 5. Selection of thematic / text / compositional and linguistic means of expression. 6. Working with language material - inventiveness, selection processes, patterns and text composition. 7. Editing Text - thematic, compositional and language; stylistic procedures and stylistic forms and their modifications. 8. Framework components of the text - name / title, footnotes, bibliographical data and others. Text models. 9. Reception of factual text: the sense of the text and the fulfillment of its objectives, experiential complex text author and the addressee, comprehension and adequate responses. 10. The rating students' own creative production - stylistic analysis of the text produced. 11. Stylistic and compositional modifications of texts by other authors - linguistic and stylistic errors and shortcomings. 12. The most common deficiencies of official communication - work with texts.

Teaching methods
Lesson type: seminar - consultations, class discussion. A seminar, active analytical students work in the analysis of texts, active synthetic students work in the interpretation of linguistic phenomena, discussion about the professional course issues. Textual analysis, identification of the language phenomena in the text. Written elaboration and stylistic stylistic analysis (formulation) and compositional modifications entered text.
Assessment methods
Subject finish: oral exam with the written verification of terminology knowledge and the stylistic evalution of text linguistic means. The content of the written test is given by thematic areas of disciplin comprising 20 teaching tasks. Student must correctly solve 70 % of them. The prerequisite for the students to sit the oral part of the examination is to pass the written test. The prerequisite for access to the final test is the fulfillment of the assigned continuous tasks and tests.
