- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to understand the state of the art in the field of first and second language acquisition both in natural setting and in formal education.
- Learning outcomes
- After completing the course, a student will be able to:
explain the approaches and theories of second language acquisition;
understand the implications of the theories for foreign language teaching;
understand factors influencing second language acquisition;
outline the relevance of the theories for their dissertation research. - Syllabus
- Hypotheses and theories of language acquisition. Behaviorism and nativism. Current theories: constructivism, social interactionism, connectionism, information processing. Factors influencing language acquisition.
