- The course introduces the discipline and its theoretical problems, terminology, basic interrelations and trends in development of social politics and social prevention as well as it presents cases of social practice. Its priority is to cover the subject, its purpose and impacts of the mechanism (institutions, social support, services, counselling etc.) social politics and social pathology on an every-day life of a society member.

- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to describe and discuss basic theoretical problems, concepts, general context and trends of development in the fields of this discipline. The priority is to explain the purpose and consequences of social policy mechanisms to the life of the general population. It is also focused on the issue of the relationship between theory and practice, namely the specific overview of social policy measures used (institutions, benefits, services, counseling, etc.). Learning outcomes of the course unit The aim of the course is to provide students with a basic insight into the field of social pathology and selected socio-pathological phenomena with which the teacher can most often meet. Particular attention will be paid to behavioral disorders such as aggression and bullying, truancy, delinquency and crime, drug abuse and other pathological addictions.
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of the course the students will be able to: • define basic terminology and topics of the discipline • explain particular phenomena and social events in social context • explain the principles of primary prevention • understand the relation among school, family and other institutions cooperation on solutions of problems of both individuals and groups • analyse structures and functions of social politics as a scientific discipline • analyse the cases of particular social pathology from the social educator´s point of view • suggest possible solution and prevention.

- 1. The concept and subject of social policy as a science, its structure and importance. Basic principles, objectives, concepts, functions and tools of social policy. 2. Models of social policy, social stratification, welfare state (definition, approaches, substance). 3. Social security, social assistance and social services. Mission, structure, entities, financial resources, typology of social services. Social care benefits. Securing the poor and disintegrated. 4. Employment policy. Labor market specifics, characteristics of unemployment and its consequences. Globalization in the context of national states and multinational corporations. 5. Health policy. Background, health care system, health insurance. Disability. Age. Retirement age. 6. Family policy. Changes in family form, family support systems, development, characteristics, transformation, demographic aspects. Women in pregnancy and maternity. 7. Housing policy. State functions, tools, transformation, support, reproduction of housing stock. 8. Education policy. Content, goals, principles, documents, changes, financing and efficiency. Characteristics of school reforms in the context of social mobility. The process of social policy transformation in the Czech Republic. Problems and trends, visions. 9. Social pathology - theoretical definition of the subject, introduction to basic concepts. Social deviation - definition, delimitation. Standard and order in society, social control and conformity. Anomie. Social Deviation Theory. Causes of Deviation. Classification of social deviations. 10. Socialization and resocialization, prevention and correction - primary, secondary and tertiary socialization. 11. System of pedagogical-psychological counseling in the field of social pathologies - educational counselor, school counseling center, pedagogical-psychological counseling centers, educational care centers for children and youth, social educator. 12. Behavioral disorders - definition, etiology and classification of behavioral disorders, behavioral disorders x behavioral problems. 13. Truancy as a specific phenomenon in the school environment. Definition, etiology, classification and correction. Aggression and bullying among children. Definition, etiology, classification, bullying actors, bullying signs, solution procedure. Workplace violence - mobbing, bossing. 14. Crime and delinquency. Definition, etiology, classification, remedy, prevention. Pathological addictions, addictive and impulsive disorders. 15. Drugs as a current threat in the life of an individual. Definition of drug addiction and its types. Development of drug addiction. Prevention and Remedy. 16. Outline of other socially pathological phenomena threatening individuals and society (prostitution, family violence, xenophobia, racism, suicide; 17. Extreme movement, sects and cults (negative influence of mass media, globalization). Social consequences in relation to individuals and society.

This work will have at least five pages and the content will be based on the topics in the syllabus. When creating a seminar paper, it is necessary to proceed from the selection of one of the following possible forms of grasping the topic: • controversy over the contribution of a selected professional text in the field of social policy • optimization of the functioning of the Czech social security system, or a proposal for a solution. • analysis of the human problem in a social event based on life experience and reading of professional literature. • Elaboration of a model strategy for solving a specific socially pathological phenomenon with a clear definition of the role of a social pedagogue in solving a selected problem and its cooperation with professional workplaces - problem definition, possible solutions, role of social pedagogue and other involved professional institutions. • Elaboration of a case report of a selected socio-pathological phenomenon in society and its negative consequences for the personality of an individual, family or society.
