Course objectives
The aim is to acquaint students with the laws affecting the performance of the teaching profession and they are useful in teaching civic education.
Learning outcomes
The student is able to orientate in basic legal concepts, to understand the importance of the function of law in the modern state and to apply the necessary laws in his / her future practice. The student will familiarize with the various branches of law and will be able to characterize them. The student will be able to state the ways of resolving disputes in law and describe the court system. The student will familiarize with the sources of law and the legal system of the Czech Republic. The student will be able to apply law in everyday life - both selected issues of private law (persons, contracts, including employment contracts, marriage, inheritance, property) and public law (offence, misdemeanour, crime).
Syllabus
  • 1. Introduction to the study of law - basic division of law, law and justice, law and morality/ethics, legal cultures. 2. Private and public law. Characteristics of legal branches. 3. Rule of law and sources of law. Legal order of the Czech Republic. EU and international law. 4. "Legal relations" (especially subjects of law - natural and legal persons). 5. Legal actions. 6. System of courts. Dispute resolution in law. Basic differences between civil and criminal proceedings. 7. Law professions. 8. Selected issues of private law - contracts, consumer law, claims of parties. 9. Selected issues of private law - employment law, employment contract, employee´s rights. 10. Other issues of private law - neighbour disputes, power of attorney, compensation for damages. 11. Family and inheritance law. 12. Selected issues of public law - crime and offence.
