- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to deepen the knowledge of Russian morphology, syntax and stylistics in a comparative Russian-Czech aspect. The attention is also focused on the extension of the vocabulary within topics discussed and the practice of translation from Russian into Czech and vice versa.
- Learning outcomes
- Student will be able to:
discuss conversational topics;
to express their thoughts with the use of a new lexicon in written and spoken language;
correctly use grammatical and stylistic means;
to confront the grammatical and lexical phenomena of Russian and Czech;
to translate correctly from Russian into Czech within the discussed topics. - Syllabus
- 1. School, school system in the Czech Republic and Russia. Vocabulary on "School, study".
- 2. Post-secondary education: study in the Czech Republic in comparison to Russia. Russian verbs with different ties. The lexical-semantic group "znanije - poznanije".
- 3. Teacher, teacher's mission. The Russian verb "learn" and its derivatives. The lexical-semantic group "učitel - pedagog - vospitatel".
- 4. Science and research. Importance of science at present. Russian verbs to explore, to discover, to construct.
- 5. Visiting the library. Expert studies and fiction literature in Russian. Scientific style phrases.
- 6. Information and communication technologies. Numerical expressions. Linking numerals with nouns.
- 7. Art in the life of a young person: contemporary world and domestic music scene. The Russian verb "to hear" and its derivatives. The lexical-semantic group "known - renowned".
- 8. Art in a Young Man's Life: Film and Theater. Expression of presumption and uncertainty in Russian.
- 9. Cultural events: theater, museum, gallery. Russian word "kartina" and its use.
- 10. Walk through the city. Bank, Post Office. Russian odrinal and collective numerals.
- 11. We are going to visit. Celebrations, birthday parties.

- Teaching methods
- Seminar, class discussion on given topics, homework, group projects within the areas discussed, reading and listening of Russian texts.
- Assessment methods
- Credit includes two parts:
a) Written test (75% of correct answers is needed to pass).
b) Oral part: the discussion with the teacher, the reading (Russian book(s) – 350 p.) and the listening (Russian movie). The student will also bring a vocabulary exercise book, which will contain at least 50 new words. - Language of instruction
