Prerequisites
The course Analysis of theories of social pedagogy introduces social theories applied to social education phenomena. The basic outline of the course creates the system view of presented theories accompanied by culture social factors, pedagogical conceptions and education theories. The aim is to emphasize the importance of multi-factor approach to social phenomena to describe them as well as to explain it not only in educational reality but also social educator ´s reality.

Course objectives
The aim of the course is to prepare students for the creation of a diploma thesis, especially in the theoretical level.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the students will be able to: • define basic terminology and topics related to the discipline • explain specific phenomena and social events in social context • apply social theories to context of Czech society • analyse social education phenomena • suggest solutions to problem cases of social education reality.
Syllabus
  • 1. The position of social sciences in the context of scientific paradigms (Winch, Fay). Structure of Scientific Revolutions (Kuhn). 2. Social theory and its application in educational phenomena. Pedagogy as a non-science (Brezinka). Contemporary Theories of Education (Bertrand). Theory of ignorance (Liessmann), postmodern pedagogy. Educational (cultural, social) reproduction, cultural capital, habitus (Bourdieu). 3. The theory of modernity and theory of social systems (Luhmann). Globalization (Giddens, Beck) and Hyperculture (Lipovetsky, Juvin). 4. Constructionism (Gergen), social construction of reality (Berger, Luckmann). Social supply and distribution and everydayness of knowledge. 5. Critical theories (Marcus, Horkheimer), power theory, institutionalization, oppression and domination (Walzer), power and biomoc (Foucault), social critical hermeneutics (Kögler). 6. Poststructuralism (de Saussure), turn to language, dispositive, discourse analysis and archeology of knowledge (Foucault), theory of speech acts (Austin, Searle). 7. Social media theory (Thompson), critical reading, writing, thinking. Mass communication theory (Mc Quail). Dimension of social change (Meyrowitz). 8. Postfeminism and performativity theory (Butler), gender, essentialism, sexual revolution, changes in intimacy. Theory of Recognition (Young). 9. The theory of social justice (Rawls), the theory of equal access and social non-equality. Discursive Democracy (Habermas). Social exclusion and inclusion. 10. Pragmatism of J. Dewey, pragmatic enactivism G. H. Meada.

Students submit a seminar paper in the range of five standard pages and in the written exam they get at least the minimum number of points (ie 14 out of 23 possible points). Students will insert a seminar paper into the e-learning course "Social pedagogical theories, distance e-course" (password: storch) one week before the beginning of the exam period. The topic of the seminar work is chosen by the students independently within the areas in the syllabus and materials that are available for the course in the e-l system. When creating a seminar paper, it is necessary to proceed from the selection of one of the following possible forms of grasping the topic: • analysis of the contribution of selected social theory in the field of educational reality in the context of social pedagogy, • optimization of the functioning of the Czech educational system, proposal of a solution, • analysis of an educational problem based on life experience or reading of professional literature.
