Course objectives
Developing effective communication skills, creating a safe and supportive learning environment, increasing emotional intelligence, promoting critical thinking skills, self-development/auto-education.
Learning outcomes
The learner will list and explain the basic principles of nonviolent communication. The learner recognizes and expresses feelings and needs, listens with empathy, and resolves conflicts in a respectful manner. The learner communicates effectively, i.e., uses I-talk, the learner is able to rethink and reframe negative language and knows how blame and criticism can work in communication. Learners know and can apply techniques of active listening, expressing feelings and needs, and suggesting possible solutions. Learners are able to create a supportive environment in which the potential to meet learners' needs is enhanced, they are able to foster a sense of community and promote positive relationships between learners and teachers.

  • 1. The essence of nonviolent communication from the perspective of human personality.
  • 2. Observation and naming of feelings.
  • 3. Needs and strategies.
  • 4. Requests and orders.
  • 5. Developing emotional intelligence and self-awareness
  • 6. Active listening and empathetic responses.
  • 7. Reformulation of blaming, judging, or criticizing.
  • 8. Conflict resolution strategies (drama education) and mediation.
  • 9. Developing a positive classroom environment through non-violent communication (including feedback)
  • 10. Addressing power imbalances in the classroom through non-violent communication (including feedback and empowering student autonomy)
  • 11. Promoting inclusivity and diversity through nonviolent communication
  • 12. Developing a plan for incorporating nonviolent communication into the school culture.

Teaching methods
Methods based on thought operations (analysis, inferential and differential interpretation, evaluation, creativity), critical thinking methods, theoretical preparation and self-reflection, and feedback training. Experiential method. Microlearning, e-learning.
Assessment methods
The course is completed by colloquium. The prerequisites are reading at least two books by M. Rosenberg (see the list of references), continuous reading of professional literature (Rogers, Joseph), active group and individual work in the seminar, sharing of results, a reflection of results, self-reflection, participation in at least 80% of seminars, completion of continuous tasks (e-learning, microlearning), self-development plan, plan for implementation of NVC in the school environment.
