- Course objectives
- The objective of this subject are basic aspect of the word, its function in the ambit of the language system, its status and functions in the particular language level.
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of this course the student will be able to: - characterize the basic terms of lexicology, - will be familiar with the basic scientific disciplines and the subject of lexicology research, - will be familiar with the characteristics of the word, its origin and changes in meaning, - will be aware of the current tendencies of the development of the Russian vocabulary and a tendency to accept words from foreign languages.
- Syllabus
- From the theoretic perspective the word is focused as a basic unit of the language, that has its own specific historical evolution. The actual vocabulary of the Russian language is investigating from different points of view: 1. The word as a basic unit of language.
- 2. Lexicography.
- 3-5. Types of lexicon according to selected criteria. Archaisms, neologisms, barbarisms, exoticisms, etc.
- 6. Special acceptance.
- 7. Words original and acceptance.
- 8. Acceptance from Slavic languages. Old Slavonic.
- 9. Acceptance from non-Slavic languages. Anglicisms in contemporary Russian.

- Teaching methods
- Lecture. E-learning. The course ends with a written work that examines the theoretical knowledge of the students. Written work is in Russian. After successfully writing the essay is followed by an oral examination.
- Assessment methods
- Exam - first written part(in Russian Language). 75% of correct answers is needed to pass. Second oral part. Checked both content and language correctness.
