Course objectives
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the current theoretical foundations of Russian language didactics, the history of methodological approaches to foreign language teaching, the theory of foreign language acquisition, the influence of the mother tongue. Another goal is to teach the principles of European and Czech language education policy, the specifics of teaching the Russian language in primary schools. The syllabus includes information on teaching aids, which, among other things, take into account specific educational needs. Theoretical background presented in the course materials are connected with the possibility of subsequent practical application in the teaching of the Russian language.
Learning outcomes
As a result of the study of this course students:

- are able to define the basic concepts of foreign language didactics,
- can describe basic teaching methods and didactic approaches,
- are acquainted with current theories of foreign language acquisition,
-are able to identify manifestations of the influence of the mother tongue on speech production in Russian,
-have an overview of current teaching aids used in teaching the Russian language, including resources for online teaching,
-are able to take into account and choose appropriate means for teaching students with SEN.

  • 1. Didactics of foreign languages. Classical methodological currents in foreign language didactics. Alternative teaching methods.
  • 2. Theory of foreign language acquisition.
  • 3. Cross-linguistic influence. Language transfer and interference in foreign language teaching.
  • 4. Teaching Russian at primary schools in the Czech Republic. Curricular documents. Objectives of teaching RJ at elementary school.
  • 5. Learning styles. Pupils with specific learning needs.
  • 6. Didactic resources in teaching Russian language. Types of teaching aids. Worksheets (requirements for elaboration and modification).
  • 7. Czech textbook files for teaching the Russian language.
  • 8. Foreign textbook files. Issues of textbook selection.
  • 9.-10. Planning RJ teaching at elementary school. Thematic plans
  • 11.-12. Methods / methodological elements in foreign language teaching.

Seminar, group projects, task-based learning, presentations, homework. Creating a portfolio.
Assessment methods
The condition for successful completion of the course is regular preparation for classes, submission of completed tasks, active participation in classes. Written test (open test tasks).
