Course objectives
The subject develops a deeper understanding of the principles and methods of environmental education, motivates to adopt and apply the presented approaches to practice. The aim is to penetrate deeper into two basic approaches in the field of environmental education - learning by contact with nature and learning through stories.
Learning outcomes
Students will be able to apply the knowledge into practice.
Syllabus
  • 1. Miracles in nature (greenhouse effect, photosynthesis, decomposition, bioclimation and ecosystem).
  • Summary of basic ecological concepts and environmental contexts, including didactic recommendations for teaching the basics of ecology, environmentalism, global environmental problems and principles of sustainable development.
  • 2. Overview and practical demonstrations of practice-approved approaches to EEC:
  • We learn by contact with nature - topics:
  • • Research oriented learning
  • • Learning in the garden
  • • working with natural materials
  • • Art techniques
  • • Practical observations of natural phenomena
  • We learnt through stories - topics:
  • • use of methodical publications (Fairy Garden, Green Island, Kindergarten, etc.)
  • • story-telling, econaratology (telling stories) stories from the history of the landscape
  • • real stories (DDT - Silent Spring, energy-self-sufficient village of Kněžice, etc.)
  • 3. Presentation of students' topics
  • Students' practical demonstrations of activating methods usable in EEC.
