Course objectives
At the end of the rhetoric course, the students will know the tools how to improve the abilities of a cultivated written and spoken Czech speech and will be able to defend his/her opinion against opponents, to build up arguments and detect a manipulation. Training in using language and communication training in the education and training in teaching.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the rhetoric course, the students is able:
1. To create written and spoken texts when using literary Czech.
2. To choose literary or non-literary language according to the communicative situation, to cultivate his/her speech.
3. The defend his/her own opinion, built up arguments and detect manipulation.
4. To differ verbal, paraverbal and non-verbal means of the spoken communication and use them in the speech adequately.
5. To prepare suitable slides to presentation.

  • 1. Fundamental presupposition of cultivated using language.
  • 2. Paraverbal, verbal and nonverbal aspects of speech.
  • 4. Pragmatic communitaion.
  • 5. Manipulation and fallacies.
  • 6. Overcomming stress when giving a speech.
  • 7. How to make slides and presentation.

Teaching methods
The subject contains individual tuition only, students work individual with the study literature.
Assessment methods
That subject is based on an individual studium. Students can turn to the teacher and ask him for a consultation. To gain the credit students have to write a critical book review in the minimal extent of 8000 marks (typographicals characters). The students can themselves choose the book, that shall be reviewed (book on rhetorics of book on spoken texts). It is recommended to ask the teacher if the book is convenient for the review.
