- The objectives of the course include acquiring basic knowledge about the structure and function of the human organism, providing an overview of ontogenetic periods, basic infectious diseases and important non-infectious diseases of mass occurrence and their prevention in childhood (cardiovascular, cancer and metabolic diseases, allergies, osteoporosis) and acquiring basic information in the field of lay first aid. The course provides synthetic information in the field of medicine adapted to the needs of the students of the Faculty of Education. This knowledge is combined with the principles of good pedagogical practice, with emphasis on the independent and responsible decision-making of the teacher in the event of a threat to the health or life of a child. Emphasis is placed on a holistic concept of health and early recognition of health disorders and preventive measures.
- Learning outcomes
- Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to: - Explain the relationship between ontogenetic periods and typical diseases of a given age; assess risk factors in childhood and adolescence; orient in the etiology, prevention and treatment of diseases of childhood; - Explain the symptoms and causes of conditions that threaten the health and life of children and adults and suggest preventive measures for chronic non-infectious diseases; - recognize the most common disorders in the structure and function of regulatory systems and understand the implications of these disorders for human performance, especially in childhood; - the participant is able to use the acquired knowledge in pedagogical work and in the education of children; - understand the specific needs of the child organism.
- Syllabus
- Block 1-.3: Characteristics of individual ontogeny in relation to risk and protective factors of health. Block 4-8: Hierarchy of living systems, cell, tissue. Structure and function of individual organ systems in relation to disease prevention and health promotion (with emphasis on prevention of infectious and chronic non-infectious diseases)
