Course objectives
The course widens and deepens students’ knowledge of literary theory and history in connection with activation of their academic thinking. It follows up to their knowledge of literary methodology, which they acquired in Master’s study. During the course students should learn to think critically about possibilities of research theories, approaches and methods in the field of literary science. Then they should be able to formulate a research problem and research aim, and apply methodological tools and procedures when solving particular issues. Students should use gained knowledge and skills when writing high-quality academic texts and during their presentations.
Syllabus
  • Topics: Science and explorations. Tendency of social studies development. Interdisciplinarity in social studies. Character and types of academic work. Research as a way of implementation of academic work. Types of literary research. Literary research methods: search of a material, analysis and synthesis, experiment, analytical-comparative method etc. Quantitative research. Possibilities of usage of quantitative research methods and techniques during examination of literary-historical dates. Research results processing and interpretation. Theoretical and methodological approaches used when studying literature spread via digital media. Ethical aspect of academic text creation.
