Course objectives
The course focuses on more recent history of the Czech philosophical thinking. Its aim is to present the main themes addressed and major authors in contexts-historical development and changes of the world of science and philosophy. Used to a deeper understanding of our spiritual culture as an essential part of our national identity.
Learning outcomes
Student will acquire the ability to read the original philosophical text, process specialist text for their own future use (abstract).

  • 1. Sources for the study of Modern Czech Philosophy 2. The Czech philosophy in 19th century (Enlightenment and Hegelianism herbartism as the roots of modern Czech science and philosophy) 3. Czech positivism and its role and limits of positivism critics 4. Masaryk as philosopher 5. Interwar stage of the Czech philosophical thinking (directions, authors, themes) 6. Post-war development, the establishment of Marxism 7. Czech philosophy in-exile and samizdat 8. An outline shape of our philosophy since 1989 9. The Czech environmental philosophy and ethics
