Course objectives

The subject connects the theoretical and practical components of the comics/ sequential art sphere. Basic genre definition, historical development and its part in history, but also its evolution and current tendencies. In the second part of the learning block, students are introduced to the entire process of creating comics and other forms of sequential art. During the entire semester, the student will work on his own comics/sequential art piece. Each lesson also includes collective creation in teaching and creating an inspiring environment. Students are actively guided in participating in open calls.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, the student will be able to:
- Write and analyze their own short script;
- Create storyboards and character sheets, work out the details of their own story;
- Stylize, illustrate and actively search for own handwriting;
- Orientate themself in the current world of sequential art and its history;
- Create their own comic work/ webcomics/ fanzine and adequately present it in online and printed versions;

• 1. Introduction to the theory of comics/Preparation of the screeplay 2. Breakthrough works, genres/ Screenplay analysis, preparation of materials for storyboards 3. Dynamics, sequence, stylization/ Creation of storyboards 4. Technique and signature style/ Character sheet preparation, environment 5. Promotion, opencalls/ Let's illustrate! 6. Contemporary works across genres/ Post-production

Teaching methods

Lectures, practical work and consultations.

Assessment methods

Complete comics, or concrete conception of the work.
