- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to provide the student with an overview of teaching pronunciation methods available and give him/her a chance to put them in practice in a course organised for basic school children at Zakladni skola Bakalovo nabrezi as an extracurricular activity to supplement their regular classes of English in the area of systematic pronunciation training. Each session of the course consists of an input session, where teaching methods are overviewed and summarised, the preceding lesson analysed and reflected upon and the actual teaching session at ZS Bakalovo nabrezi, where each course participant will be asked to teach ,normally co-teach with a fellow student from the course,a lesson focusing on a particular topic. The topics offered are forged according to the foundational pronunciation course the students have already taken ,i.e. the main focus in the first semester is to practise individual sounds, especially those causing problems to the Czech speaker of English, whereas in the summer semester the focus moves towards suprasegmental phenomena, such as rhythm ,linking and intonation using longer texts ( fairy tales and the like)
- Syllabus
- Longer texts ,mainly fairy tales, are read with the children -in small groups and in the whole class- on a regular basis, focusing mainly on training rhythm, linking and basic intonation on a level corresponding to the children's needs in a lively and interesting way.A dramatization a fairy tale can be done later as the course progresses presented at a school academy to enhance the children's motivation and enable the parents to see the progress their child has made.
- Assessment methods (in Czech)
- The course ends with a credit for which the student must actively participate both in the input and in the output session, preparing lesson plans and activities necessary ,do the teaching part as assigned, presentthe lessons plans and workshhets made in the electronic form and at the end of the semester hand in a two-page reflection on the course and especially on the student's own teaching experience during the course.
