Prerequisites
The English for Academic Purposes course has been intended for intermediate and upper-intermediate doctoral program students at Masaryk University Faculty of Education. The students should have already passed their examination in general English at PdF MU.

Course objectives
PhD. program students: In the English for Academic Purposes course the postgraduate students of Masaryk University Faculty of Education will consolidate their language skills, widen their knowledge of terminology relating to their specialization, and learn some academic skills (presentations, CVs, letters of application, note-taking, summary writing, etc.) in English. Examination requirements: Successful students will be credited for: - Reading comprehension (special authentic English text of approx. 200 pages) - Oral presentation (presenting the PhD. thesis structure and original results) - Discussion about the doctoral research preformed - Writing a summary (of a general text from a current newspaper).
Syllabus
  • (PhD. program students) In the English for Academic Purposes course the postgraduate students of Masaryk University Faculty of Education will consolidate their language skills, widen their knowledge of terminology relating to their specialization, and learn some selected academic skills (presentations, CVs, letters of application, note-taking, summary writing, etc.) in English. Examination requirements: Successful students will be credited for: - Reading comprehension (special authentic text of approx. 200 pages) - Oral presentation (presenting the PhD thesis - structure, methodology, and original results) - Discussion about the preformed doctoral research - Writing a summary (of a general text from a current English or American newspaper).

Assessment methods (in Czech)
Zkouška - vyžaduje se minimální jazyková kompetence na úrovni C1. Autenticky anglicky text z oboru sve specializace predlozi doktorand zkousejicimu nejpozdeji dva dny pred konanim zkousky z anglickeho jazyka. Examination - Required minimal language competence C1. An authentic English text (200-250 pages)to be submitted to the examiner two days before the examination.
