- Cílem předmětu je získání a prohloubení základních vědomostí o dějinách starověkých říší Předního východu, dále Řecka a Římského impéria, spolu s pochopením složitých souvislostí jejich vzniku, rozkvětu i zániku. Práce v semináři bude vycházet ze samostatného studia doporučené literatury, o níž budeme diskutovat.
- Syllabus
- The oldest history of Mesopotamia Babylonian, Assyrian and Persian Empire + culture. Chetitian, Urartian, Median and Lydian Empire + culture. History of Palestine and Phoenicia + culture. History of Egypt + culture. Relation and differences: Minoan and Mycenaean civilization – legacy of old oriental development in Europe, origins of development of antiquity: the level of continuity and break in this process; European development specifics in the oldest passage of written history. Development in Greece in dark and archaic age. From Tribal society to state (Changes of institutions of clan to organs of state, mainly on the example of Athens and Sparta). Causes and contribution of the Great Greece colonization. From oligarchy to democracy in Athens (8th – end of the 6th century). Specifics of system and society of Sparta. Brief look into the development of Corinth and Thebes. Classical age of Greek history. (Democracy in the ancient age and now; Greece and Persia – historical opposition? Greek culture and its role in the history of Europe; Mythology of Greeks as a source of artistic inspiration of centuries). Causes and solves of crisis of Greek polis. Hellenism as the age of Greece – Oriental synthesis. Ancient age in western Mediterranean: Etruscans and Carthage. Origins of Rome – legends and reality. Archaic age of Roman history in the light of modern historiography. Explanation of basis of Roman republican system in so called Serviic reforms. Foundation of the Roman republic, development of its society, question of the level of democracy in old Rome, rise of the Empire in the age of the republic and crisis of republican system. Problem of Roman republican agriculture. Building of principate from Octavianus Augustus to Hadrian. Imperium Romanum on the peak of its existence (lifestyle, culture). Romans and our land until Marcomanic wars including. Explanations of definition General crisis of the Roman Empire. Times of the military emperors. Dominate and its reforms as an attempt about solving of the crisis. Colonate. Medieval building processes in Roman territory. Roman state and Christianity (Spreading across the Empire, cases of pursuit, collaboration of Christian church and Roman state since times of Constantin the Great). Romans and Barbaric world since 3rd until 6th century A.D. (Until arrival of Langobards to Italy ).
