- Course objectives
- Art, specificity of art communication, means of artistic expression. Primary and secondary functions, potentional and actualized value, kinds of attitude, changeability of norms. Extensional and intensional crossings in art, specifics of artistic and non-artistic music. The kitsch in art, mass culture. The notion of sign, presentation and representation. Kinds of signs (icon, index and symbol).
- Syllabus
- The program of lectures: 1. Relation between aesthetics and theory of art. Art, its classification, specificity of art communication, means of artistic expression. 2. Function, potential and actualized value, changeability of norms. 3. The Development of general, artistic and music semiotics 4. The main kinds of sign: icon, index and symbol; a theory of signs (type, token, interpretant etc.) 5. Art work as a sign system, codes in music and other kinds of art 6. The analysis of art work 7. Art work in time of its technical reproducibility 8. Mass culture in general term 9. The Kitsch as a product of mass culture; problem of advertisement; the midcult. 10. Relationship between art and non-art, commerciality in music. 11. Pragmatic level of semiotics
