Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to understand the basic features of Russian folk, old Russian literature and culture; to learn the history of old Russian literature and its relations with the historical and political conditions in Russia; to understand the main topics of literary science and their application in the text analysis; to analyze the relations of Russian folklore and literature; to understand and analyze the relations between literature, art and music; to understand and analyze the relations between the style, movement and genre in their historical evolution; (papers written by the students)

  • 3. The branches of literary science, their relationship to the related sciences (history, philosophy, sociology, psychology, antropology, aesthetics).
  • 4. Literary criticism, history of literature, textology, bibliography, archival science, etc.
  • 5. Theory of literature
  • 6. Poetics
  • 7. Comparative-historical method in literature
  • 8. Versification
  • 9. The main problems of genology, literary genres and movements.
  • 10. Aesthetics – terminology, European and Russian schools of aesthetics and literary scholarship
  • 11. Close reading of Russian literature
  • 12. Russian terminology of literary science
