- Course objectives
- At the end of the course students should be able to: - to explain the most important linguistic styles, especially the functional styles, - to respect the language, stylistic and communication standards when speaking, - to understand and explain the dynamics of functional styles, - to interpret the stylistic theory and understand it.
- Syllabus
- 1 Stylistics as a linguistic branch, basic terminology. 2 Stylistics in context with other scientific branches and theories / communication, culture of the language and speech, rhetoric, explication of the literary text, inter-textuality (sequence of texts) and others. 3 A survey of the evolution of stylistic knowledge in our country, status quo. 4 Style differentiation of the contemporary Czech language, objective and subjective styles. 5 Functional styles and their dynamism. Characteristic features of the individual spheres of style, style intersections in communication. 6 Characteristic features of the functional styles (basic and principal styles from the social aspect). 7 Stylistic value of the language and compositional resources. Style levels. 8 Structure of the text, its structuring, style procedures and stylistic forms taught in basic schools. 9 Methods of the stylistic research and stylistic analyses of the texts.

- Lectures.A lecture combined with sebsequent discussions on the professional issues of the course.
- Assessment methods
- Subject is finished by credit. Credit requirements: Written test in the end of the term. The test includes cca 20 short questions focused to elementary language phenomena. To be successfull student has to answer 80 % of them.
