Course objectives
At the end of this course, students should be able: to acquire the distinctive features of the functional styles in French; to focuse the stylistic means available in French at phonetical, phonological, graphetical, morphological, syntactical, lexical and semantic level; to and introduces the students to the study of the stylistics of a text.to to apply the acquired knowledge and skills in their working life.

  • 1. Stylistics as a linguistic discipline. Explicitness and redundancy in language. 2. Norm and deviation. Stylistic markers of a style. 3. Criteria for stylistic analysis. 4. Functional styles in French. 5. Linguistic description of a text. Cohesion and coherence.
