Knowledge from the winter term (Gramatická cvičení 1) is assumed; parallel attendance of "Jazyková cvičení 2" is recommended.

Course objectives
This course is a follow-up course of the “Grammar course 1” in the winter term and finishes the revision of German core grammar in the first year. It deals with some basic syntactic construction types in German. By attending grammar course 1 & 2, students get prepared for the final exam at the end of the first year. At the end of the course, students should be able to:
- use the most common forms and structures of German in spoken and written communication,
- identify problematic cases and come up with acceptable solutions (using textbooks and reference grammars).
Syllabus
  • - Sentence negation and constituent negation (7.3),
  • - Infinitive constructions (7.11, 7.20),
  • - Verb position in matrix sentences and embedded sentences (7.8, 7.9, 7.10),
  • - Conjunctions and different types of conjoined sentences (causal, conditional etc., 7.18-7.24).

Teaching methods
Lectures and selected in-class exercises; working independently on specific problems at home.
Assessment methods
Classes are taught weekly, presence at classes is compulsory (no more than 3 absences); during the semester, students may be asked to accomplish homework. In addition, a written test at the end of the semester has to be passed (minimal 60 % of the total number of points).
