- Course objectives
- The aim of this course is to 1) enhance language skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) and systems (vocabulary and grammar) by means of up-to-date topics related to education, school, teaching career and academic sphere to acheieve level B2; 2) acquire specialist terminology for individual disciplines; 3) develop students' academic skills: (CV and cover letter, Master's thesis abstract and literature review.)

- 1) Pressing issues in Czech primary and secondary education, future prospects. 2) Tertiary education (universities, colleges) now and in the future. 3) Universities – research or education centres? Language of science and research. 4) Thesis abstract, related academic vocabulary/phrases, foreign information sources. 5) E-learning and distant forms of study. 6) Teaching gifted and talented pupils/students. 7) Teaching pupils/students with specific learning difficulties. 8) Professional career – required qualities. 9) Teaching career X Management career. 10) Plans for future. Work and employment. CV and cover letter. Job interview. 11) Oral presentations; Grammar: Conditionals; Articles; Countable and uncountable nouns, Quantifiers; some, any, no…; Reported speech; Prepositional phrases; sentence transformations III; Phrasal verbs.

- Teaching methods
- Weekly ninety-minute seminars designed for teaching English for specific and academic purposes (acitvities developing students' awarness of language skills and systems within B2 level - listening and reading tasks; grammar and vocabulary practice, discussions and other speaking activities, e-learning for acquiring specialist terminology and practising grammar etc.
- Assessment methods
- Credit requirements: 1) Attendance (only two classes can be missed), home preparation for classes, active participation in classes; 2) Submitted in-term assignments: Master's thesis abstract + literature review of Master's thesis sources in English (must be submitted on the date of the oral exam); 3) Respecting all deadlines; 4) Oral presentation - 10 marks; 5) Exam: 2 parts: A) written (parts: listening, reading comprehension, use of English, writing, terminology; level B2; TOTAL: 100 marks Pass mark = 70 marks B) Oral – A) monologue (3 min) + B) spoken interaction between two students (6 min). TOTAL: 75 marks Pass mark = 41 marks The final mark is based on the test score and presentation score + oral exam.

General note: Nutno mít absolvovaný předchozí předmět typu C. Studenti skládají závěrečný test na úrovni B2. Počet míst v kurzu je limitován kapacitou pracoviště.
