- Course objectives
- Interpretation of Texts of the 19th Century Czech Literature II draws upon the subject Interpretation of Texts of the 19th Century Czech Literature I. Students learn about significant works of the 19th century literature, analyse these texts and using essential methods of interpretation specify connotations and plurality of the meaning of individual literary works. Students will get an insight into literary trends and movements of the period in question, as well as into the specific nature of their poetics. They will be able to identify and analyze the style of outstanding personalities, significant for that particular period. Students will further develop their literary knowledge and interpretational skills with the aim to communicate with a literary work more efficiently.

- Teaching methods
- Students will get an inside into the basic trends of literature for young adults in the respective period, as well as into the specific nature of the poetics of individual literary movements. They will be able to identify and analyze the style of outstanding personalities, significant for a particular period. Students will further develop their literary knowledge and interpretational skills with the aim to communicate with a literary work more efficiently. They will creatively use their knowledge gained not only in the classes but also in their individual study of recommended literature which they will be able to discuss regularly with their teacher.
- Assessment methods
- Students will present the results of their work in both written (assignment) and oral form (mini-lecture), thus enhancing their individual style and the ability of critical thinking. The emphasis is put on student´s ability to evaluate a literary work, to compare it in the context of the current Czech and world literary production and to defend their views using precise terminology.
