The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
At the end of this course student will understand the sense of law in Church, at first generally and then by the study of chosen parts of the Codex of canonic law. The aim is to understand the sense of law existence in Church, to what extent it is a terrestrial society, and then to know – at least generally – the content of canonic standards. Assumption of the facilities how to understand anthropological and ecclesiological principles of canonic law, for what are the lectures that will learn the students to understand the Church more deeply, its spriritual and terrestrial parts. The emphasis is placed on understanding of the role of law in Church which exceeds the terrestrial realities. Students have to understand that the aim of laws in Church is not to replace religion and love by them, but to create a space for developing these spiritual facts both in the lives of individuals and in ecclesiastic community.
Syllabus
  • -The introduction to the study is made by philosophy and teology of law, brief history of ecclesiastic law and its codification, especially the codification of the Codex of canonic law in 1983. -Selection of some chapters of the Codex of canonic law: -From the 1st book of the Codex – General standards: Law of the Church – generally valid orders and instructions – individual administrative acts-articles and rules of procedure – individuals and corporate bodies – legal dealing – managing power – ecclesiastic offices. -From the 2nd book of the Codex – God´s people: 1st part – the Christians: duties and rights of all Christians – duties and rights of laymen – sacred servants or spiritual association of Christians, 2nd part – hierarchical system of Church – the Highest Head of Church – local Churches and their heads, 3rd part – the community of consecrated life and the community of apostolic life – General standards for all communities of consecrated life, regular communities, secular communities, societies of apostolic life. -From the 4th book of the Codex – the Devoting service of Church: 1st part – sacraments: baptism-confirmation-Eucharist-sacrament pacification-sacrament unction of sick people- sacrament sanctification-sacrament of marriage
