- An efficient participation in the education requires from students basic knowledge of geology, hydrology and climatology in order to have an ability to assess correctly these factors ant their impact on the development of the soil and vegetation covers.

- Course objectives
- The aim of the subject is the demonstration of fundamental knowledge of geographical aspects of soil and vegetation study. The indication role of the soil and vegetation fro other environmental components will be enhanced as well as the practical applicability of such knowledge in life and economy. The both subjects will be presented as attractive ones for understanding to secondary school pupils.

- Subject contents:
- 1. Soil geography in the system of geographic disciplines. Study object and subject of soil geography. Supporting disciplines.
- 2. Soil as a system. Basic features.
- 3. Components of the soil.
- 4. Soil forming processes.
- 5. Soil classification and soil division of the Czech territory.
- 6. Geographical aspects of territorial distribution of soils.
- 7. Biogeography in the system of geographic disciplines. Related disciplines.
- 8. Terms: plant/animal society, ecotop, geobicenose.
- 9. Ecoelements of vegetation.
- 10. Growth forms of vegetation, formations.
- 11. Biogeographical division of Czech Republic.
- 12. Soil geography and biogeography in geography curriculum at secondary schools.

- Oral lectures, thematic seminars, field work, geological map compilation, terrain assessment using topographic maps.
- Assessment methods
- Subject themes are presented in oral lectures. Final exam is obligatory. If the written exam is successful, oral one is not necessary. Credits from the seminary represent the exam precondition.
