The English course for intermediate students (Level A2) who can understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc., who can produce simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest, and can read texts and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.

Course objectives
In the compulsorily-optional English for Technology Teachers 1, the students will consolidate their language skills from secondary school (Pass in 'maturita' in English is required), and will learn some selected academic skills (oral presentation, expressing opinions, discussion, etc.) in English. Successful students will be credited for active participation in the lessons, for oral and written presentations and tests.

  • Topic 1 Education in the CR and the UK. Tertiary education. Texts on education, similarities and differences, universities Study skills – discussion based on experience, expressing opinion, making a statement, Academic skills – basic reading techniques, mini-presentation Assignments – long-term task – create your own specialized topic based vocabulary Grammar - revision of present tense simple+continuous, prepositions of time and place Topic 2 My future work, job description, dream job Texts on various jobs and future occupations Study skills – opinion exchange, personal experience, reflection based on notes Academic skills – critical thinking, note taking Grammar – past tense simple+continuous Assignments – topic based vocabulary Mid-term test Revision of vocabulary and grammar (tenses) studied in the first part of the term Topic 3 People and interpersonal relationships. Texts on friendship, family relationship, partnership Study skills – giving and supporting arguments, comparing similarities and differences, describing people Academic skills –- expressing opinion, short writing Grammar – adjectives – personal qualities, comparatives, superlatives, Assignments – short description of a person, topic based vocabulary Topic 4 Bullying and other problems in schools Texts on problems in schools Study skills – discussion, opinion exchange, supporting arguments Academic skills - dialogues and arguments Grammar – present perfect simple, expressing future Assignment – topic based vocabulary

Credit requirements: Active participation and completing assignments, 80% attendance in a term, mid-term test Final test 70% Only students who have completed all assignments can sit the credit test!!!
