Course objectives
After successful completion of this course, students are able to orientate in the countryside, work with GPS and use it for thematic and topographic mapping, prepare geographical plan, measure distances and angles in a terrain and elaborate a topographic plan.The aim of this subject is to strengthen knowledge and acquire skills in work with cartographic materials, during the orientation and measurement in field with a help of topographic apparatus and GPS.
Syllabus
  • Meet particular topographic and cartographic workplaces.
  • Creation of a geographical sketch by means of forward intersection method.
  • Practical activities with a map, orientation with regard to points of the compass, azimuthing.
  • Working with GPS.
  • Examination of knowledge during the movement orientation in an unknown terrain with a help of map and compass.
  • Working in the Cartography Centre in Velké Opatovice.
