Course objectives
Through analysis and interpretation of selected pieces of literature, the seminar offers students a more thorough understanding of Czech post-war literature. It draws upon the obligatory seminar on Czech literature after the year 1945. When analysing the texts, students notice the basic characteristics of the style of individual periods as well as the specificity of poetics of individual literary groups and outstanding personalities.Students will be able to explain the development of literary trends and movements in the particular period of Czech literature. They will be able to identify and analyse the style of outstanding literary personalities of the period. They will be able to interpret literary pieces as well as justify and support their views using their knowledge of literary studies.

Teaching methods
In the form of a seminar (interpretations and analysis of selected works), students will get a deeper insight into literary trends and movements of Czech literature in the period in question. They will be able to identify and analyze the style of outstanding personalities of Czech poetry and prose, significant for that particular period. Students will further develop their literary knowledge and interpretational skills with the aim to communicate with a literary work more efficiently. They will creatively use their knowledge gained not only in contact classes but also in their individual study of recommended seocndary literature which they will be able to discuss regularly with their teacher.
Assessment methods
Credit requirements: students hand in written preparations (analysis and interpretations) for every individual seminar. They also work out excerpts from 50 books of recommended secondary literature.
