- Course objectives
- The aim of the course English for Social Educators is to develop and consolidate students' language skills and help them to achieve B1 level in all language skills(listening, reading, speaking, writing). During the course students will revise grammar and vocabulary connected to their field of study (B1 level). Furthermore, students will develop some academic skills in English (oral presentation, academic writing, supporting arguments, discussion, etc.).

- Topics: Education – Education in the CR/other countries, Primary/Secondar/Tertiary Education, Current Problems in Schools - bullying, truancy, mobiles, addictions, etc., Interpersonal relationships- generation gaps (children and parents; younger and older generations), Global social issues.
- Grammar(self-study): Wh-questions (asking questions in different tenses); Present simple x continuous, Past simple x continuous, Present perfect, Expressing future, Word order, Comparative, Superlative, Adjectives ending with -ed, –ing, Adjectives x Adverbs, Modal verbs, Conditional clauses, Simple passive, Countable x uncountable nouns, Relative pronouns/clauses, Phrasal verbs, Verbs – gerund x infinitive, Prepositions, Prepositional phrases (adjectives, verbs), Question tags.

- Teaching methods
- 4 consultations during the semester, activities and tasks developing students' language skills and competencies, class and group discussions, vocabulary practice, mind mapping, opinion and information sharing, giving arguments, critical thinking, home assignments plus home reading, etc.
- Assessment methods
- Examination REQUIREMENTS
1) Attendance and active participation in the consultations (only 1 class can be missed)
2) Submitting home assignments (HRW) in due time (5 days prior the consultation)
3) Final examination - test on PC - max 75 marks (part A – listening (true/false, gap-filling), part B – reading (gap-filling, MCQ), part C – vocabulary, grammar (gap filling, definitions – MCQ, asking questions, verb tenses), part D – writing – composition of 130-140 words). Pass mark = 65% i.e. 49 marks
4) Oral part - Presentation - max 25 marks (8-10 minutes long, introducing oneself, the field of study, current work, plus summary of 3 articles (based on HRW).
Final grade: Grade A (100-93 marks), Grade B (92-86), Grade C (85-79), Grade D (78-72), Grade E (71-65 marks).
The student who has not completed and submitted continuous tasks during the particular semester cannot be allowed to sit the final exam. - Language of instruction

- Information on completion of the course: Pro úspěšné ukončení předmětu jsou předepsány v semestru průběžné kontroly, jejichž výsledky jsou započítávány do závěrečného hodnocení. Jazykový kurz není určen pro začátečníky.
The course is taught annually.
General note: Předmět bude zapsán po udělení zápočtu za Vstupní test CJV_AJA2k, který si student zapíše v podzimním semestru, test na úrovni A2 složí v lednu, a poté absolvuje předmět SC4BK_CJAJ v jarním semestru. Počet míst v kurzu je limitován kapacitou pracoviště.
