- Course objectives
- The student will extend their CEFR B2 language skills (listening, speaking, reading, writing) and will be able to speak on current topics related to their academic field of study and professinal career (Problem addiction. Work with addicts. Prevention; Social issues of today. Homelessness. Un/Employment. Applying for a job. Future career;)
Students will also deepen their academic skills in: Writing a CV, cover letter, Master's thesis abstract developing thus their presentation skills in the 'Presentation for a Social Worker's Job Abroad' project. - Syllabus
- Topics:
- 1) Hot social issues. Problem addictions. Prevention.
- 2) Studying Abroad. Social educator's qualification and experience. Plans for future career.
- 3) Current social issues. Interpersonal relations. Family issues. Un/Employment. Homelessness.
- HOME ASSIGNMENTS: A. PROJECT Poster - Job Advertisement: Creating a job opportunity. Poster presentation. Shortlisting job applicants. Job interview.
- B. Master's thesis ABSTRACT in English. Title. Topic. Structure. Recommendations.
- SELF-STUDY Grammar: Tenses, reported speech; conditional sentences; articles;prepositional phrases; linking expressions; gerund or infinitive; phrasal verbs;
- Vocabulary practice. Reading and Listening comprehension (level B2)
- Test practice: Sentence transformation, word formation, listening, reading comprehension, essay writing, etc.

A) Written part (listening, reading, use of English, writing; (total = 70 marks; pass mark = 45). Test on PC.
B) Oral part:
a Monologue (1-minute talk about the student's field of study and master's thesis) b)Dialogue (6-minute discussion of two students on a particular topic) Total: 30 marks; Pass mark = 20
