- Course objectives
- The main objective of the course is to develop speaking, reading, writing and listening skills at the Intermediate Level. The basic study material is the coursebook New English File Upper-Intermediate supplemented by various additional materials. Throughout the semester students are encouraged to link theory in the classroom to practice at schools via practical tasks. At the end of the course students should be able to: discuss everyday topics, communicate in everyday situations, read and listen to authentic texts at the Intermediate Level and communicate in the language fluently.

- The basic study material is the coursebook New English File UPPER-INTERMEDIATE (Student's book and Workbook), see Literature bellow. The syllabus includes Unit 7, the focus is on speaking and listening activities and development of students' vocabulary.

- Assessment methods
- Maximum points received during the semester: 200. 1) Students need to pass final written test focused on vocabulary, grammar, listening, reading covered during the term - 80 points (passmark is 70%, re-sits), 2) oral exam proving their overall grammar and vocabulary knowledge - 50 points, 3) placement test 1 - 10 points (first class in the semester) 4) placement test 2 - 20 points (last class of the semester) 5) progress test - 10 points (midterm) 6) continuous assessment based on homework and active participation in the seminars - 30 points. Students have to prepare for lessons throughout the whole term and do homework for each lesson, which is the base for their active participation in the seminars. Most of the work is based on students' self-study.
