It is pressupposed the student has succesfully finished the subject CJ2BP_JSy1 (Syntax of the Czech Language I).

Course objectives
Contemporary Czech Syntax II follows the Contemporary Czech Syntax I.; the analysis of the compound sentence follows the analysis of the sentence.
That is pressupossed the students after finishing the course:
1. Are able to analyse compound sentence and complex sentence;
2. Know the types of the clauses;
3. Are able to identify the relationships among the clauses in all types of compound and complex sentences.
Syllabus
  • 1. Criterion for the differentiation between sentence and compound sentence.
  • 2. Valence of the verb. Syntactical structures.
  • 3. Compound sentence. Connectives (word category, syntactical function, meaning).
  • 4. Main clause and dependent clause.
  • 5. Co-ordination in the compound sentence. Types of the semantic function of the co-ordination, the connective of the co-ordination. 6. Subordination. Complex sentence.
  • 7. Classification of the clauses. Clauses in the valence position of the predicative verb in the main clause.
  • 8. Compound sentence and complexe sentence with the most complicated structure.
  • 9. Graphical picture of the compound sentence and complex sentence.

Assessment methods
Program of course is based on tutorial.
Ending: Examination including practical part and theoretical questions.
Examination requirements: The requirements include themen of the subjects CJ2RC_JSy1 a CJ2RC_JSy2 (see syllabi of the subjects and literature).
A. Written part of examination is based on practical items: students shall complet analyse one sentence/clause and one compound or combined sentence, recognize sorts of sentential constituents and of clauses, non-predicative sentences...;
B. Oral part: students get two theoretical questions.
To get at least mark "E" students have to answer 75 % of these questions correctly.
