Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to understand the artistic styles and literary styles of the Russian literature in the first half of the 20th century in relation to the tratditions based in the literature in the end of the 19th century. They should be also able to understand and independently interpret works written by the significant writers of the russian prose, poetry and drama in this period.
Syllabus
  • The course is focused chosen chapters of the Russian literature of the given period. 1. Literature of „The Silver Age“ of the Russian literature. Symbolism, acmeism, futurism, imaginism. Poetics and the main representatives. 2. Marina Cvetajeva – personality and works. Writers „outside the literary styles“ (Bunin, Andreiev). 3. The movement OBERIU. Literary movement until the 30s of 20th century. The situation in the literature after 1917. The phases of the Russian emigration. 4. Realism (Bunin, Kuprin, Zajcev). Neorealism (Zamiatin, Platonov), so called tzv. Magic realism (Bulgakov). 5. Estabilishing of the Socialistic realism. Proletarian literature (Scholochov, Gorki). Union of Writers. 6. Sovietic satire (Ilf and Petrov, Zoschenko, Bulghakov).

Assessment methods
Written test in Russian - based on Course Content and compulsory reading. Homework - presentation and handout. Themes - see "Studijni materialy" in IS. Deadline - 1 month before the end of the teaching period. Written test - self reading (see the list in "Teaching methods"). 75% of correct answers is needed. Evaluated is the content and linguistic correctness of answers.
