Course objectives
The aim of this seminar is to teach the student to define the cultivated form of the national language in spoken and written communication, to follow the linguistic disciplines Introduction to the Study of Czech Language and Phonetics and Phonology of the Czech Language and to focus on the issues of linguistic correctness in contemporary linguistic expressions,   language, explain the concept of language accuracy in morphology, morphology, in other linguistic levels.
Learning outcomes
By the end of this seminar the students will be able to distinguish higher standard of national language in its written as well as spoken form. This subject follows up with the linguistic disciplines Fundaments of the Czech Language and Phonetics and phonology of the Czech language and focuses on topics of language correctness in contemporary utterances. The first seminars concentrate on the intensification of the acquired language knowledge. After that the explanation of the conception of language correctness in the orthography and morphology or in other language levels, and evaluation of some linguistic phenomena, often discussed as correct x incorrect. The students will deal with the proofreading as well.
Syllabus
  • 1. Language, the system of the language. Language levels, linguistic disciplines. 2. Standard x non-standard Czech. Correctness in the language. Language standards, codification. Handbooks dealing with codification and their usage. 3. Graphical level of the utterances. Czech orthography. Orthography and language correctness. 4. Morphological level of the utterances. Correctness in the morphology. Morphological codification in the past and in the contemporary language. 5. The most frequent irregularitis from the language correctness in contemporary written utterances and their possible causes. 6. The most frequent irregularities from the language correctness in the texts of the pupils and students and their causes. The possibilities of their elimination. 7. Orthographical and lexical correction of written texts.

Teaching methods
The type of tuition: seminar. A seminar, active analytical students work in the analysis of texts, active synthetic students work in the interpretation of linguistic phenomena, discussion about the professional course issues. The tuition will have a form of language and orthographical excercises - spoken and written. Part of final evaluation is a seminar written thesis. Materials will be given to the students during the first class.
Assessment methods
Reading of secondary literature (+ short presentation of particular text on seminar). The knowledge of discussed matter will be verified by written tests in each semminar session, part of the seminars will also be student´s oral perfomances focused on cultivation of their teaching skills. The test includes cca 20 short questions focused to elementary language phenomena. To be successfull student has to answer 80 % of them.
