Course objectives
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with basic knowledge concerning education of students with physical disabilities and chronic disease. Upon successful completion of this course student will be oriented in upbringing and education of students with physical disabilities and chronic disease. Student will be oriented in legislation, couselling system and contemporary approaches to education of individuals with physical disabilities and chronic disease.
Syllabus
  • Studying areas: 1. The development of the society towards physically disabled and chronically illed people. 2. Creating and development of the field, main representatives (Jedlička, Bartoš, Chlup, Kábele) 3. The contemporary situation in education of individuals with physical disability (special pre-school education, special elementary schools and grammar schools). 4. Education of students with physical disability and chronic disease in mainstream schools and legislation. 5. System of counselling in the Czech Republic. 6. Organisation of schools at the hospitals (tasks, content and organisation of education, studying plans, curriculum, and books). 7. Characteristic of individuals with chronical illness (heart diseases, respiratory system, allergy, disorders of metabolism, tumour diseases, skin diseases). 8. Epilepsy. 9. Classification of physical dysfunctions. Central and peripheral paresis, characteristic of the most often disorders by children. 10. Central and peripheral paresis, characteristic of the most often diseases by adults (Sclerosis multiplex, Parkinsons disease, etc.). 11. Cerebral palsy, aetiology, forms of CP, psycho-motor development. 12. Poliomyelitis, aetiology, consequences. 13. Deformations, classification, characteristic of particular deformations. Back diseases scoliosis, kyfosis, characteristics, care. 14. Perthess disease, aetiology, consequences, care. 15. Degenerative disorders of body (arthritis, tuberculosis of bones, arthritis, Ankylosing spondylitis) 16. Muscular dystrophy (myopathy), aetiology, consequences, care. 17. Specifics of work with students with physical disability. 18. Social and psychological aspects of physical dysfunction. 19. Comprehensive rehabilitation, perspectives and trends.

Interactive seminar, discussion, video
Assessment methods
Active participation during lectures. Attendance at lease 80 %. Written exam consisted of 40 questions. Student needs to obtain at least 75 % of correct answers.
