Course objectives
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with special pedagogical diagnostic tools and procedures in sighted and blind children, pupils and students.
Learning outcomes
Student will be able to: -Recommend procedures and practical exercises to correct the binocular vision of preschool child - to recommend aids for everyday life of a person with a visual impairment depending on the degree and type of visual impairnent - describe and understand diagnostic procedures for functional vision examination - to analyze, based on the degree of disability, the vision and the age of the child, its basic needs and measures for school work
Syllabus
  • • Tests of functional vision, visual therapy and functional vision assessment. • Significance of diagnostics of functional vision with focus on age and degree of visual impairment. • Special pedagogical diagnostics of visual functions and interdisciplinary cooperation in the diagnostic process. • Diagnostics of visual function in early and pre-school children. • Diagnostics of visual functions and related special educational needs in school-age children. • Diagnostics of visual functions during adolescence and early adulthood. • The importance of compensatory senses in the diagnostics of visual impairment. • The importance of psychomotor skills of early and preschool children in the diagnostics of visual impairment. • Diagnostics of disorders in binocular vision and its significance. Special procedures. • Diagnostics of visual impairment in a child with multiple disability. • Defining special educational needs based on sub-diagnostic domains. • Individual education plan for pupil with visual impairment. • School maturity of a child with visual impairment and the importance of specific support for a child in pre-school age. • Transition to secondary school. Supporting diagnostic domains and special pedagogical support for youth during their vocational training. • Specifics of selected areas of assessment with regard to the degree and type of visual impairment.
