Course objectives
The course deepens the theoretical basics of literature teaching didactic, by further discussing the issues of teaching literature at secondary schools, the questions of the course’s goals, contents and its structure and above all, discussing its methods. Students will undestand the process of literary education at secondary schools in the general and curricular sense, they will understand the issues of the interpretative and teaching methods of teaching literature, the role of creativity, the functions and methods of assessment.
Learning outcomes
Students will be able to explain and assess the literature teaching approaches in the general and curricular sense, they will be able to explain the basic issues of using the traditional and modern teaching methods and forms of activation for teaching literature at elementary schools, the roles of creativity and creative thinking, they will be able to explain the methods of evaluation and classification.
Syllabus
  • 1. The past opinions on teaching literature at secondary schools. 2. The conception of the objectives and the curriculum of literary education in current educational programs. The objectives and content of teaching literature in the curriculum. 3. Course specification in the school programs, the concept of the maturita exam. 4. Models of the literary education, methodical systems of teaching literature as viewed by the current theories of teaching literature. 5. The methodology of teaching literature at secondary schools. Classification of teaching methods. 6. The relationship between methods and phases of a combined literary education lesson. 7. The specifics of the didactic interpretation of text, interpretation as a solution to problematic situations. 8. Interpretative methods and approaches at secondary schools, the types of problematic tasks. 9. Examples of problematic tasks – the relationship between generic and specific. 10. Student’s involvement in the teaching process, peer teaching, report papers, guided discussion. 11. Evaluation, testing, and classification in literary education. 12. Researches of reading, of reading literacy and of reception of the reader. Research methods and possible uses of the results.
