Course objectives
Students after successful completion of the course:
will understand biophysical principles and laws;
will be able to explain biophysical principles and laws;
understand the physical principles of major medical devices;
will understand the possibilities of using biophysical techniques and medical devices in practice;
will be able to explain the basic principles of so-called physiological biophysics.
Syllabus
  • 1. Introduction. Biophysical view of the structure of matter. Medicine and technology. Biosignals and their processing. 2. Temperature measurement and registration. Measurement and registration of mechanical quantities. Electro-diagnostic methods (ECG, EEG, EMG, ERG). 3. Effects of mechanical forces and acoustic fields on living systems. Biological effects of electromagnetic fields and non-ionizing radiation. Biological effects of ionizing radiation. Conventional X-ray Imaging Methods. 4. Ultrasound imaging methods. Ultrasound doppler and combined methods. 5. Advanced tomographic methods (CT, MRI). 6. Instruments replacing the function of organs. Nanotechnology in medicine.
